Seeding rate calculator
Convert a target seeding rate into lb/ac or kg/ha: seeds per acre with seeds per pound, or seeds per m² with thousand kernel weight, adjusted for germination and purity.
From a target population to pounds or kilograms
Seeding rate (kg/ha) = seeds per m² × thousand kernel weight (g) ÷ 100 ÷ germination ÷ purity. The result is also shown in lb/ac (1 kg/ha = 0.892 lb/ac). Read thousand kernel weight, germination and purity from the certificate of the seed lot you are using.
In U.S. mode enter the target seeds per acre and the seed size from the bag tag (seeds per pound): seeding rate (lb/ac) = seeds per acre ÷ seeds per pound ÷ germination ÷ purity. The 80K seed units figure is for corn, which is sold in units of 80,000 kernels.
The calculator does not choose the target population for a variety, sowing date or field. A heavier seed lot or lower germination raises the weight of seed needed for the same population.
